About India Map Hub
India Map Hub is a free, independent project with one goal: to make good-quality maps that show India's boundary correctly, available to everyone. That includes students, teachers, journalists, designers, developers and businesses.
How the maps are made
We don't trace or redraw maps by hand. Every map is generated by software from open geographic data, using a single master boundary of India. That keeps every map consistent, and any correction appears on all maps at once. Before each update, automated checks confirm that the boundary includes all of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh, and that each state capital lies inside its state.
Data sources
- States, union territories and India's boundary: DataMeet community maps, aligned with the Survey of India's political map (updated for the 2019 and 2020 reorganisations).
- Countries, rivers, lakes, mountain ranges, peaks, seas and relief: Natural Earth (public domain), using its India point-of-view boundary data.
- Capitals and peak heights: compiled by India Map Hub from public sources.
