About this map
India has 8 union territories (UTs). The central government governs them directly, unlike states, which have their own elected governments. Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Puducherry have their own legislative assemblies.
The current set of union territories dates from 26 January 2020, when Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu were merged into one UT. Before that, on 31 October 2019, the former state of Jammu and Kashmir was reorganised into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
